That scent of hops that tells you you're home

Nearly bankrupt in the early 70s, Anchor was revived by washing-machine heir Fritz Maytag, who took Steam Beer, an original and uniquely American form or craft brewing, started brewing it in the Chase & Sanborn coffee roastery at the foot of Potrero Hill, and turned it into a beloved San Francisco classic.

Now owned by Sapporo Brewing, Anchor Steam deserves the benefit of the doubt, if for the time being.
