Potrero Police Station

Built to quell the rowdy and save the injured, the old Potrero station and emergency hospital now sit waiting their rebirth as police offices...

Both structures were built during a raft of new civic construction which spanned the period following the 1906 Earthquake through the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition.

When new, these buildings replaced an older police station and emergency hospital located nearby. They were designed to serve the residents and laborers of Potrero Point, which at the turn of the century was home to one of the greatest concentrations of industrial works on the West Coast.

If you have the time, watch this fascinating talk on the site, the building and the neighborhood from 2018’s Potrero Hill History Night by historian Jonathan Lammers
