Esprit Park Renovation UPDATE & Request for Support Letters

Letters of Support are Highly Encouraged!

Rec Park will be submitting the Esprit Renovation Project to the Rec Park Commission in February. They will ask for approval of the concept design and acceptance of the grants from UCSF and the Dogpatch & NW Potrero Hill Green Benefit District that will allow us to complete the project.

At our January 19th Special Membership Meeting, DNA voted to endorse plan "W" which will include a double meadow design, one for families and non-dog folks and the north meadow for off-leash dog play. Turf will be 100% Natural Grass which we hope will not cause overrun of the dog-free side during rainy times of year when the dog play turf area needs to be closed for rest.

The final concept design is based on all of the feedback received on the project, including over 400+ responses to the recent community survey, the Planning Department’s Central Waterfront Dogpatch Public Realm Plan, Esprit Community Advisory Group meetings, community meetings/workshops (in-person and virtual), online surveys, neighborhood association meetings and many other communications including e-mails, phone calls and discussions. The concept design package can be seen on the RPD website.

There are two ways to participate at the Commission hearings.

  • Email your feedback to recpark.commission@sfgov.org.

  • Call into Commission to speak and give public comment. The phone number and meeting agenda will be posted on the RPB website closer to the meeting date.

There will also be links to this information from the RPD project webpage. The meetings dates/times are as follows

Capital Committee: Wednesday, February 3, 2021, 2pm

Full Commission: Thursday, February 18, 2021, 10am

Your support at the Commission can help ensure that the renovation project moves forward and we get closer to enjoying a revitalized Esprit Park.

If you would like your name listed on the staff report submitted to the Commissioners as either a “supporter” or “opponent,” please reply to this e-mail by Tuesday, January 26th.

The Rec Park Staff would like to thank our community members who have participated in the many conversations, meetings and surveys about the renovation of Esprit Park. They acknowledge that it has been a lengthy process and truly value and appreciate everyone’s participation and input.

For any questions and comments please e-mail, Project Manager, Alexis.Ward@sfgov.org.
