Illinois Street Sidewalk Extension Construction Notice

To enhance pedestrian safety and comfort, the Port of San Francisco and San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will construct sidewalks at Illinois Street between Mariposa and 18th Street and between 19th and 20th Street, on the east side of the street. The work will include installation of a 14’ sidewalk in the section from Mariposa to 18th Street and a 6’ wide sidewalk between 19th and 20th Street. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in mid-August and continue through late October.

Construct new 14-Ft wide sidewalk on east side of Illinois Street between 18th and Mariposa streets.

Construct new 6-Ft wide sidewalk on east side of Illinois Street between 19th and 20th streets.

Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What to expect during construction?

  • Work will take place on the East side of Illinois Street between Mariposa and 18th Street, and 19th and 20th Street. There will be some traffic impacts, but proper traffic controls will be set up to ensure safety for vehicles and pedestrians.

  • Measures will be taken to minimize noise and dust disruptions. No work will be performed after 5 PM or on weekends.

The Illinois Street Sidewalk Project improvements support the Bay Trail and Blue Greenway projects. The overall improvements will enhance American with Disabilities Act (ADA) access and will also increase driver and bicyclist safety while providing enhanced access to Crane Cove Park.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work hard to improve the Illinois Street sidewalk.
